Google Business Profile Suspended? Here's How to Get It Back

A Google Business Profile suspension is one of the most stressful events a small business can face. One day you're showing up in local searches, the next day your listing has vanished — and Google's notification (if you got one at all) was a vague "policy violation".

Here's exactly how to get reinstated.

Why profiles get suspended

Google's stated reasons fall into a few buckets:

  • Stuffing keywords in the business name ("Joe's Plumbing — Best Plumber Dublin")
  • Wrong category (e.g. consulting firm listed as restaurant)
  • Unverified location (no signage, no public access)
  • Multiple accounts managing the same profile with suspicious activity
  • Listing a virtual office or PO box as a physical location
  • High volume of suggested edits triggering review

The unstated reasons are harder. Suspensions often come from a buildup of small signals: review velocity that looks fake, geographic patterns that look off, NAP mismatches across the web.

Step 1 — Don't panic, and don't create a new listing

The worst thing you can do is create a new profile to work around the suspension. Google's systems detect this and you'll get the new one suspended too — often permanently this time.

Step 2 — Identify the type of suspension

There are two kinds:

Soft suspension: Your listing is still visible but you've lost the ability to edit it. Often shows a banner in your dashboard. Usually easy to fix — submit verification documents.

Hard suspension: Your listing is removed from Google Maps and Search entirely. The Profile dashboard shows "Suspended". This needs reinstatement.

Step 3 — Submit reinstatement request

Go to: support.google.com/business/contact/business_redressal_form

Fill in:

  • Business name
  • Address (must match your registration)
  • Country (Ireland)
  • Contact email (use the same email as the GBP account)
  • Detailed explanation of your business

What to write: be concise, factual, and include evidence:

Our business has operated at this address since [year]. Below is our [utility bill / lease / CRO registration] confirming the address. We comply with all Google Business Profile guidelines. Please review and reinstate.

Upload:

  • Photo of business signage
  • Photo of business interior with staff
  • Utility bill matching address
  • Business registration (CRO certificate for Irish businesses)
  • Business insurance certificate

Step 4 — Wait

Reinstatement typically takes:

  • 3–7 days for clear-cut cases
  • 2–4 weeks for ambiguous cases
  • Months for repeat offenders or complex cases

Do not submit multiple forms. Each duplicate submission delays review.

Step 5 — If denied, appeal

If your first reinstatement is denied, you can appeal once via the same form. Provide additional evidence:

  • More photos from different angles
  • Time-stamped photos showing operational signage
  • Customer testimonials with dates
  • Video walkthrough of premises

Step 6 — Prevent it from happening again

After reinstatement:

  • Audit your business name — remove all keywords/location modifiers
  • Verify your category is the most specific accurate one
  • Document everything with MyReputation.ie so you have proof of state if it happens again
  • Set up automated monitoring so suspicious activity (sudden reviews, suggested edits, photo additions) gets flagged within hours, not weeks
The businesses that get suspended twice are those who never set up monitoring. The businesses that never get suspended are usually those who can see exactly what's happening to their listing in real time.
